Most women ignore these symptoms and avoid getting treated.

Non-treatment of UTI can lead to problems of reproductory organs hence it is important to take treatment for the infection as soon as possible. Urinary Tract Infection can be treated at home by following a few simple remedies religiously.

Home Remedies for Treating Urinary Tract Infection

Drink 8 glasses of water daily

One of the most common reasons of urinary tract infection is not drinking enough water. Our body needs at least eight glasses of water every day. Women who fail to follow this simple rule will experience UTI time and again.

In the absence of sufficient water in the body, the bladder does not feel the urge to urinate. As a result, the small amount of urine in the bladder leads to habitation of E.coli bacteria in the bladder. These E.coli bacteria are responsible for the infection. Drinking enough water will ensure that the E.coli do not make their home inside the bladder. Frequent trips to the bathroom will ensure their removal from the body. Hence drink plenty of water to prevent UTI. If you have UTI then drink a glass of water every 30 minutes to ensure the bacteria leave the body fast.

Cranberry Juice

Cranberry juice is very effective in treating UTI. The fruit of cranberry contains enzymes which help fight the E.coli bacteria that deposit in the bladder during urinary tract infection. The enzymes prevent the multiplication of the bacteria by acting on their growth system. This way the bacteria neither grow nor spread.

Drink at least four glasses of pure cranberry juice every day for four days to get rid of the infection completely. Ensure that the juice contains no added chemicals or preservatives like sugar. Eating sugar or drinking sugar-laced drinks will only enhance the growth of bacteria and give them a conducive environment for rapid multiplication. If you find the juice too strong for your taste then mix it with spring water and then drink.

Baking soda

Not many people know that baking soda has alkaline properties that help neutralize the acid in the urine.
During urinary tract infection, the acid in the urine is very strong because the body hasn’t received sufficient water to neutralize it. When this happens there is strong burning sensation in the bladder. This burning can be controlled and prevented by intake of baking soda. Mix one teaspoon of baking soda in 150ml of clean water and drink this concoction. This treatment should be done four to five times in a day until the infection is completely gone.

Blueberries

Blueberries belong to the same group of fruits as the cranberries do. Hence, the enzymes in blueberries are as effective in treating urinary tract infection as are those found in cranberry.
