Arkopharma Laboratories produces the survey Fitofarma 2020, in which more than 2,400 people have participated and the use of medicinal plants has been analyzed for different mild health disorders, such as overweight. The medicinal plant best known by the Spaniards is the camilina, a name with which green tea is also known, used as a supporter in weight control programs
Nearly half of the population diets without consulting a health professional, as it uses the Internet or recommendations from friends. This is confirmed by the survey Fitopharma 2020, performed by Arkopharma Laboratories with the advice of the Center for Research on Physiotherapy (INFITO). In this survey, the largest on medicinal plants, more than 2,400 people have participated and the use of medicinal plants has been analyzed for different mild health disorders, such as overweight. From INFITO, we remember the importance of taking medicinal plants of pharmaceutical dispensation, always accompanied by a balanced diet and the practice of moderate physical exercise and with the advice of a health professional, such as the pharmacist.
In this regard, Arkopharma Laboratories make available to different pharmacies throughout the country the program Watch your line in which a team of nutritionists offers food advice, physical activity programs and recommends the most suitable medicinal plant for each case. During the confinement, more than 350 (or about 400) people have received this plan in the distance, with the objective of receiving nutritional advice, balanced menu suggestions and feeding guidelines for quarantine days. More than half followed a less healthy diet and 67 per cent gained weight during confinement. “The time that people have spent at home has passed on to many, as the urge to spike between hours has increased and have noticed more anxiety. As a result of this and the least physical activity, they have increased weight and wanted to resort to a nutritionist to help them eat better,” says Silvia Moreno, one of the project coordinators in Arkopharma Laboratories.
According to the survey, 47% of Spaniards have dieted in the last year and more than half plan to lose weight in this. Of the latter, 47% state how to do it alone. In dieting “it is important to be well advised by a health care professional who can advise on foods more or less suitable to each, the ways to cook them, the food plans more commensurate with each routine, etc. It is essential that food be balanced and provide all necessary nutrients”, says the nutritionist Moreno. However, it’s a lot of people who turn to the Internet, “where you don’t always find appropriate advice, and even propose practices that can be dangerous to health,” he warns.
As a result of these diets, poorly called miracles, “in addition to following an unhealthy diet, most people don’t usually lose the weight they need, either because they don’t get enough of the method or because they leave it right away due to the impossibility of keeping it in time. And, if they lose weight, it is little or they recover it quickly, for the bounce effect or me-yo," Moreno explains. In fact, according to the survey data, one in four Spaniards who have dieted in the last year have lost little weight and 16% won it again.
Gradual and sustained weight loss
Weight loss diets should therefore be balanced and accompanied by the practice of physical exercise in a moderate and regular manner, as recommended by all nutrition guides. In addition, it may be helpful to take pharmaceutical preparations for medicinal plants. “This is a series of plants that act as contributors to diet and exercise, to lose those pounds more gradually and sustainably in time”, says Teresa Ortega, Professor of Pharmacology at the Complutense University of Madrid and Vice President of INFITO. In addition, there are different plants depending on the problem that each person can have to control their weight. “So, if you want to control the spike between hours, you can help the garcinia. If we find it difficult to control the amounts, glucomanano may be useful, for its satiating properties. The ponytail can also be helpful, to remove liquids; the alcachofa, if we want a depurative effect and, of course, the green tea or camilin, which favors the metabolism of lipids”, he explains. Green tea is the medicinal plant best known by the Spanish, according to the survey.
To know what plant can be the most suitable for each case, INFITO, in collaboration with Arkopharma Laboratories, has included on its website a brief test to guide it: https://plantasmedicinalespara.com/fitotherapy-personalized/. In any case, from INFITO they insist, “the taking of medicinal plants must also be done on the advice of a health professional and, in this sense, the pharmacist is the one who can best advise thanks to his formation in phytotherapy. On the other hand, at the pharmacy we will also obtain quality assurances, safety and effectiveness,” concludes Professor Ortega.
