How To Get Rid Of A Blocked Nose

Don’t you just hate the stuffy feeling you get when you are down with a blocked nose? And what makes it worse is the fact that it invariably comes accompanied with headaches, watery eyes, drowsiness and sometimes even fever. Aren’t those days the worst, you lock yourself in your room, bury deeper in your quilt and pray to God to show mercy.

Well, all of us have seen at least a couple of such days in our lives. But the good news is that we can ensure we don’t go through this ordeal frequently, by simply making and taking some household remedies.

The most common reason for the mucus walls in our nasal passage to swell up is infection, allergies or a sinus attack. Sometimes the blocked feeling occurs due to excessive use of common irritants such as deodorants, room fresheners, perfumes etc. Whatever the reason, it causes equal discomfort, and difficulty in sleeping and breathing.

The one thing that can simply never fail in curing any kind of blocked nose is good old mustard oil. When heated up and rubbed on the nose, it helps loosen all that solidified mucus stuck to the nasal walls, thereby opening the breathing passage. Another oil, that I swear works wonders for nasal congestion is eucalyptus oil. However, since it is very pungent, it is best to dissolve some of it in a little hot water and inhale its steam.

In the same way tea tree oil can also be used. Always remember that whichever oil you are using, even mustard oil, should never be applied inside the nose, as that could backfire and make the nasal irritation worse. Always apply oil indirectly, either rub in outside the nose or inhale it by dissolving it in water. Que dia se celebra hoy

Drinking liquids like loads of water, honey with lime juice, fresh fruit juices, mint or lemon tea, or any or all kinds of soups is also a good idea, as they help flush out the irritants. Plus, your nasal tract is connected to the throat, should an infection escape the nose, be rest assured your throat is going to catch it.

Certain other things you can do to feel better is avoid lying flat on the bed as it could worsen your breathing. Instead prop yourself up using a good pillow so that your nasal passage can drain itself while you sleep, or even sleep on one side. Rest all that you can, so your immune system can charge itself. You can help it by eating small balanced meals that are nutritious. Also increase your intake of ginger and garlic in whichever form you can, as both of these are loaded with cold fighting nutrients.

Avoid taking to the bed in these circumstances, instead try going for a long walk or even the gym as it has been proved that all sorts of physical activities increase the body temperature, and thereby helps melt the clotted mucus in your nasal membranes. Take nice long hot water showers, as they can sometimes ease the congestion, and if you are lucky, even wash away the infection.

And lastly, stop blowing your nose so often. Believe it or not, it only worsens your condition in the long run, and leaves your nose dry, rough and red. So the next time you get a bad case of sneezes, try some of these home remedies and feel better faster.
