Cold or common cold by any name you may call it is a very common problem in hot and humid weather especially in monsoon. It is the result of the inflammation of upper respiratory tract.  Upper respiratory tract gets inflamed due to infection caused by cold virus.

The symptoms of common cold are runny nose, sore throat, headache, red eyes. There are no medicines for common cold as such. It will last near about a week whether you take medicine or not. For this reason, it is better to take no medicine and follow the natural path which will give you relief and will help in the speedy recovery from cold.

HOME REMEDIES

Basil With Honey:

Pluck few fresh basil leaves. Smash them and strain a tablespoon basil leave juice. Mix ½ tablespoon honey with it and drink it at empty stomach. Do not drink water immediately after taking the basil honey juice. This combination is very effective to stop runny nose and cough immediately. It also heals up sore caused by cold infection inside your throat.

Ginger Tea:

 Ginger tea is very effective to give you relief in common cough and cold. You can prepare ginger tea in two ways – with milk and without milk. To prepare ginger tea with milk, take equal amount of water and milk. Boil it properly. Then add tea leaves and sugar to taste and keep the lid on. Wait for ten minutes. Then peel one fresh ginger, grind it to smooth paste. Mix the paste into the tea. Mix properly with a spoon and strain the tea. Drink it hot. You will get relief.

You can prepare ginger tea another way. Boil water. Add sugar and tea leaf in it. Add 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 teaspoon tea leaf for each cup of water. Keep the lid on. Wait for 3-5 minutes to make the liquor of the tea. Then add few drops of lemon juice and little amount of black pepper powder in the tea. Mix well and strain the tea. Drink it hot. Drink ginger tea at least 2-3 times a day to bring the cold under control.

Garlic:

Garlic is an excellent medicine in the case of common cold and fever. You can prepare soup with anything whether it is chicken or vegetables. But add garlic in that soup. Garlic has antiseptic and antispasmodic properties and many other medicinal values. Take few pieces of chicken and boil it in water. Add salt and minced garlic in the water. Boil it in low flame for an hour. Now strain the juice and give it hot to the patient.

Roasted garlic is also good to increase immunity power and to fight against cold. Take some cloves of garlic and roast them in the micro oven. Preserve them in a dry glass bottle and take a roasted clove everyday. Chew the garlic, swallow it and drink warm milk after chewing the garlic. Warm milk helps to remove the pungent smell of garlic and enhances its power.

Onion juice is also effective for common cold. Mix onion juice and garlic juice in a cup of warm water. Drink it twice or thrice everyday.

Lemon With Honey:

Take a cup of warm milk. Squeeze one lemon in it. Add a teaspoon of honey in it. Mix everything properly. Lemon juice contains a great amount of vitamin C which enhances immunity power. Warm lemon honey drink also gives comfort in runny nose.

Cumin And Black Pepper Paste:

Take some leaves of cabbage. Heat a table spoon of mustard oil in a pan. Now add I table spoon cumin seed and black pepper in it. Fry well. Add those cabbage leaves and fry everything lightly. Now grind the fried spices in the grinder into fine paste. Remove the paste from the grinder and again pour them in the pan. Keep them on low flame to make the paste dry. Add salt to taste and pinch of sugar in it. Mix well. Eat the paste with hot rice. This is an excellent folk medicine which cures not only cold but also muscle pain that is another side effect of common cold.

STEAMING

Steaming is an excellent process to remove mucus and clear your nasal passage so that you can breathe properly. Boil water in a kettle. Add little amount of camphor in it. Cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam. Do not take very hot water because the steam of this water may burn the soft skin of your face. When the steam enters the nasal passage, it liquefies the mucus and it comes out.

INHALING

Take a tablespoon of cumin seed. Take it in a soft cloth. Give a knot. Now rub the cloth covered cumin on your palm and smell the pungent smell of cumin. It will help to clear the nasal passage and will give relief from headache due to cold. You can also inhale mustard oil to get relief from cold. Take few drops of mustard oil and inhale in such a way that the oil enters you nasal passage. Instantly you will experience a burning sensation in your nose. But within few minutes the mucus will start to come out and will clear your nasal passage.

GARGLE

Gargle can bring temporary relief in sore throat. Mix a teaspoon of salt in warm water. Gargle with this water. Make green tea and gargle with this green tea. Gargling is very effective to bring the instant relief in common cold.

HOT BATH

After completing everything before going to sleep at night, take a bucket of hot water. Add salt in it. Place your feet in it. Take the warmth and sit in that position for 20-25 minutes. After that remove your feet from hot water and wipe it dry with a dry cloth. Do not use cold water on any part of your body after taking hot bath. Just go to bed, cover your feet with a wrapper and go to sleep.

So you can treat common cold naturally without taking the help of medicine. It is not at all a serious problem. It only needs timely care so that it does not aggravate.
