One cannot simply wish away all those extra pounds that we put on during pregnancy. And although you are simply dying to get into all those slinky and sexy dresses in your wardrobe, it is prudent to not get too carried away by this slimming idea.

Your doctor would strictly advise you against it, and in fact maybe even warn you against loosing too much weight too fast, by going on some Asian diet or killing yourself in the gym. This is for the simple reason, that your body has just undergone a massive process of creating and pushing a life out into the world, and is hence tired, sore and tender.  The last thing it needs now is for you to push it again to do something strenuous or taxing in anyway, this includes crash diets, starvation and exercising.

Hence, whatever you do, avoid doing anything drastic or severe. This includes choosing surgical options, which artificially tamper with your body to make it shed weight. This shall prove dangerous for you in the long term, and even worse for your baby’s development in the short term. Plus, a sudden weight loss will simply not suit your circumstances, as you will not be able to cope with the needs and feeds of a growing infant. Hence, any program or plan for weight loss has to be slow, steady, healthy and inclusive of time with your baby. Therefore it is best to follow the following tips and tricks to shed all that baby fat naturally, gradually and safely.

Breast Feed Your Baby

Here is a little known fact, that breast feeding is not just good for your baby, it does wonders for you as well. This is because when the body starts to prepare from the oncoming pregnancy, it stores fat to help the new mother get that extra boost of energy that she needs during breast feeding. Now, if you don’t breast feed, these layers of fat simply accumulate and add to your already sagging stomach. But if you breast feed as much as your baby needs, the fat layers automatically keep burning off one by one without you realizing it.

Hence, within a month or two of breast feeding you will actually see the difference in terms of shrinking flab of your body. Even doctors and well- wishers alike, will advise you to breast feed as much as you can. Plus, doing extended feeding beyond the mandatory six months of age is even better, as there are high chances that by the time your child turns one, you have already shed that pregnancy weight.

Don’t Take To Bed

Once your baby is delivered and there is talk of you going home, the doctor will surely advise you to rest, as your body is still in a very weak and delicate condition. However, in no way should you interpret this to mean total bed rest. This is because once you get home, are in comfortable and familiar surroundings, not only will your spirits soar, but your body’s condition will also automatically improve. Hence, after the desired day or two of rest and sleep, start talking interest in the house again. This will surely translate into just walking around the house slowly but surely, or just making beds, or peeling vegetables sitting on the kitchen stool, as and when you get the time. These otherwise small, inconsequential activities will eventually help you get your groove back. When you child is big enough for walks, take small and slow walks with him. And if you have had a C-section then let yourself heal completely before indulging in any kind of exercising. But in both cases, never do anything overly strenuous or try lifting anything heavy, as these two things can push your recovery back by months.

Sleep And Rest As Often As You Can

Even though you may not feel it, but your body is so very tired after the delivery process, that it could sleep like days together, and so should you. But sadly, new mothers don’t have that option as it is in their nature to constantly worry about the well-being and feeding of their baby. Hence, it is important to realize the importance of sleep and rest post-pregnancy, because if you don’t get enough of these both your body will fare very poorly, this in turn shall impact your healing and feeding process.

Like it or not, the body is one big machine that simply cannot be on always. It too needs to shut down and reboot for better performance. Hence, it is best to sleep and rest as much as you can along with your baby. Sleep when he sleeps, lie down, or put your feet up and rest while you see and appreciate the little marvel you have created.

Eat Right, And Drink Loads Of Liquids

Just like before delivery you had to focus on nutritious food, you need to continue doing that after delivery also. This is because now everything you put into your mouth shall have a direct impact on your baby, as it shall be passed on to him through your milk. Hence, what you eat decides the quality of your milk, and in turn the health and development of your child.

So continue to eat wisely, choose nutritious, fresh and healthy food, and eat it in frequent small meals. This shall ensure you always have feed for your child even at those odd hours, when he suddenly wants to be fed. Here, water and other fresh juice etc. are also very important, as they help flush out all the toxins which cause bloating of the body and discolouration of the skin, left over from the delivery process in your system.

Lastly, don’t be in a hurry to lose weight. Take your time, don’t get obsessed with your weight loss agenda or you just end up neglecting your baby at this crucial stage of his life when he needs you the  most. So the best thing to do is rest, heal, eat right and do light workouts when possible and sure enough you will feel yourself shrink gradually but surely.
