Those who suffer from migraines will describe it as the worst type of headache ever. The slightest sound feels like a hammer hitting your head and facing any kind of light is almost unbearable. The first thing to do when you suffer from a migraine is to take rest. Block out all sunlight and noise, and sleep for at least about an hour. Avoid watching any television, reading or listening to music using head phones. If you choose to listen to music, play it on the stereo and opt for soft soothing music that will help you relax.

What you eat during this period is also very important. There are foods or drinks that can actually make the headache worse. Normally migraine is always accompanied by nausea and you won’t feel like eating or drinking a lot of things. Avoid all alcoholic beverages, smoking and drinks with caffeine in it. Some people however have found a strong shot of espresso to be very effective in curing the headache. Use your previous experience to decide, what works for someone else might do the exact opposite for you.

Take a short walk; this will help in increasing the oxygen flow to your brain. Increased oxygen helps you to feel calmer and helps you relax.

Aroma therapy oils or candles are very effective in curing migraines as well. Ask the staff in the store to help you.

Inhaling eucalyptus oil also has proven to calm a migraine headache. Take a few drops on a tissue paper or spray some drops on your pillow.

You need a lot of rest and this is your body forcing you to take it easy. Try and cut down stress from your life and include exercise in your daily routine to get rid of migraines forever.
