How to Avoid Dehydration

Dehydration is common to most human beings. Our body sends us signals but we ignore them till the final moment when we can take it no more. This is unhealthy. Dehydration is a situation where our body loses water and salt faster than it can be acquired. It is common in the summer months as we perspire and lose the water and salt from our bodies. Drinking alcohol and exercising can also lead to dehydration.

At the first signs of your body requesting for water you must provide it some. This will help to prevent a heat stroke or dizziness later. If you do have a feeling that you are seriously dehydrated then you must watch your diet closely for the next 2 to 3 days. Avoid eating spicy food as the spices can cause irritation internally when your body is suffering from lack of water. Eat fruits and vegetables that are water based like melons, mangoes, tomatoes, cucumbers and pears. Eat fiber rich fruits that satiate your hunger pangs.

When you are dehydrated you also lose potassium from your body. To compensate these levels you need to eat fruits that will replace the loss mineral. Bananas are a good source of potassium as well as they are high in their water content. In addition to this the bananas are a healthy source of lost vitamins. You can also choose to have a serving of raisins, peanuts or salted crackers. These help to increase your potassium levels as well as they are bursting with nutrients that help your body to recover from the dehydration.

Add a cup of salt to your bath water. The salt will get absorbed by your skin and will add to the value of the bath. It will also soften your skin and exfoliate it to help you to close pores and loose lesser water from your body in the form of perspiration.
