If keeping a healthy weight during the pandemic has been very complicated for a large part of the population, doing so during the summer has become a real problem. High temperatures, increased socialization and holidays are the ideal excuses to put aside physical activity and good food
Has this “pandemic summer” been the same as the previous ones regarding the habits of people?
They answered that question Venancio Nicolau, Personal trainer in Mallorca and co-founder of the Fatbusters and dietitian-nutrition training center, Olga Marín.
Marin believes that there have been no significant differences over the previous period of the pandemic. He explains that in summer it is common for consultations to be reduced as “for this season too many excesses are committed in feeding and physical exercise is left aside.”
For Venancio Nicolau, however, it has been an unprecedented summer. “For some reason more people have come in than they have come out, something that is not usual in the gyms.”
How do these professionals think it will be the situation after the summer?
Olga Marín points out that from September consultations tend to double normally for two reasons: either to re-establish the good eating habits already acquired in consultation or to order a first appointment due to the weight gain experienced during the summer season.
Although it seems that it is not until mid-September when the pilgrimage to sports centers begins, people usually take about 15 days to take the step of starting. Motos tuneadas de Ducati y Harley Davidson se exhiben en feria de relojes
It's probably at the end of September and early October when people start contacting for information, says Venancio Nicolau de Fatbusters Mallorca.
What recommendations do experts give to have healthy habits after vacation?
As for food, Olga Marín recommends:
- It is advisable to plan the menus, reset the usual schedules and moderate the quantities.
- Introduce more fruits and vegetables in food as well as whole grains, vegetables and fish.
- Reduce those foods rich in fats, sugars and/or salt.
- Choose healthy cooking techniques (plank, oven, steam...) and avoid fried and bounced.
- Increase water intake and prevent the consumption of alcohol and sugary drinks.
How to start or resume physical exercise after vacation? From Fatbusters Mallorca It is recommended:
– Start. It seems a very basic advice but often taking the first step is what it costs most.
- Mark a target. It must be concrete and realistic. Adding small short-term goals also helps to maintain motivation.
- Don't rush. In a week it is not possible to reverse what has been done for months or years. To avoid injury or excessive fatigue, it is appropriate to adapt physical activity to the current situation.
- Choose something that you like or motivate.
– Constance. WHO recommends moderate physical activity at least 150 to 300 minutes or vigorous physical activity at least 75 to 150 minutes a week.
