Hot Oil Hair Treatment

Our hair has to bear the brunt of a lot of our styling and lifestyle changes like temperature fluctuations, pollution, humidity etc. The prolonged usage of blow dryers, straighteners and curlers etc negatively affect your hair.

Even certain chemicals, which you use to get some desired effects on your hair causes dryness, split ends and damaged hair. Shampoo and conditioners do work to a certain extent but a hot oil hair treatment would do wonders for your hair.

Hot oil hair treatments are readily available at local stores but you can also use homemade hot oil treatments, which have the same effects. Homemade hot oil can be made using any one or a combination of oils like olive oil, avocado oil, jasmine oil, jojoba, canola and soybean etc.

If desired you can even add a few drops of essential oils like lavender, chamomile, tea tree etc. You can also mix it all up with mayonnaise.

The store bought oils made also consist of added features like Vitamin E and aloe. You can either heat the oils on the stove or in the microwave or heat it in a cup in hot water. Remember not to over heat the oil as it may cause scalding of the scalp. Always test the heat on the underside of your wrist before you rub it on to your scalp. Wash your hair and shampoo it, then towel dry your hair and massage the hot oil into your hair. Let the oil get soaked into your hair. Let it be for at least 15 to 20 minutes before you gently rinse off the oil again. Do not use hot water for the rinsing.

The effects of the hot oil massage would generally remain for about a week. Hence, to maintain its effects you would have to repeat the process every week. Also remember not to use a conditioner on your hair after the hot oil treatment.

A hot oil hair treatment can help in solving problems of dry scalp like dandruff as it works as a great moisturizer for the scalp and hair conditioning it all along. If done frequently its effectiveness can be maintained.
