The Herbalife Nutrition Nutritional Habits Panel – which this year marks its seventeenth edition – reveals some discrepancies and/or preferences between men and women in making the purchase. The basket of women's purchases is composed, to a greater extent, of vegetables, fruits and milks, cheeses, yogurts and derivatives, while men are more decanted by red meats, potatoes and rice and pasta.

78% of Spaniards ensure a balanced diet in their day to day. In particular, women, high-class people and those who have higher education are the ones who, to a greater extent, ensure that they are nourished in a healthier way. This is one of the conclusions drawn from the Herbalife Nutrition Annual Panel - developed together with the market research company Instituto IO Sondea-, which in its 17th edition has placed the focus on the state of health of the Spaniards and whether they are prepared for immunity from a nutritional point of view.

Focusing on food, the study reflects that water is the most consumed (98.71 per cent) every day by 90.41 per cent of Spaniards. In fact, 8 out of 10 Spaniards consume up to 2 litres of water a day, with men, people between 25 and 54 years old and residents in the Center, East and South of Spain who consume more liters of average. In addition to water, bread, cereals, rice, pasta and potatoes are very consumed food (98.67%) every day for 39.25%, followed by olive oil (98.27%), a product chosen daily by 64.76% of the respondents; while vegetables (97.83%), are consumed daily by 31.83% of the Spanish. In terms of foods that are less consumed, wine or beer (66.34%), nuts (87.15%), lean meats (90.11%) and fish and seafood (92.78%) stand out.

3 meals a day, average Spanish
9 out of 10 Spanish states to make 3 or more daily meals. In particular, 38.80% of respondents ensure eating 3 times a day - breakfast, food and dinner; 29.81% make four meals and only 17.75 percent do it five times a day.

Differing between sexes, men, in greater proportion than women, usually make 3 or less daily meals, while they make 5 or more a day. By age, the less age, the greater percentage of those who make more meals a day and are over 34 years old those who claim to make only the 3 main daily meals (breakfast, food and dinner).

In relation to the meals, usually the digestions of the Spaniards are normal. 3 out of 4 respondents (77.90%) indicate that they have no problems, while 12.06% and 10.03% declare to have heavy digestions and light digestions, respectively. Children under 45 years of age and residents in the East and Northeast of Spain are those who tend to make digestion lighter. However, women suffer from heavier digestions or it costs more than men to make digestion well. These, on the contrary, and the older ones do not highlight complications.

The study also reflects some discrepancies and/or preferences between men and women when making the purchase. The basket of women's purchases is composed, to a greater extent, of vegetables, fruits and milks, cheeses, yogurts and derivatives, while men are more decanted by red meats, potatoes and rice and pasta. There are also differences as the age of respondents increases. It is so much so that, at the age, greater proportion of fruits and fish and seafood, while, on the contrary, as the age of Spaniards decreases, the proportion in which they usually buy rice and pasta.

In general, respondents usually fill their shopping baskets with vegetables and vegetables (11.08% of the total), with fruits (10.52%), with dairy products (8.66%), with white meat (7.7%) and with fish and seafood (7.05%). On the contrary, the least they buy is pastries (2.34%), processed food (2.80%), snacks (3.23%) and nuts (3.61%).

The Spaniards, something more athlete than in 2020
Asked for their physical activity, 7 out of 10 Spaniards (69.70%) indicate that they practice sport throughout the week, percentage slightly higher than in 2020 (69.11%). However, what is decreasing is the time that Spaniards exercise; now they do an average of 3.52 hours a week, when in 2020 they carried out sport 3.65 hours a week. Men and those with high household income are the ones who spend the most hours a week getting fit.
