DIY Natural Face Wash Recipes for Every Skin Type

Home diy natural face wash 1

Diy natural face wash removes dirt, makeup, oil, and your body’s natural sebum. But using the right cleanser can help release dead skin cells from building up in your pores and treat any ailments you may have simultaneously. Pick the wrong cleanser, and the ingredients may create more issues.

The benefit of using diy cleanser is that you can personalize the recipe for your skin. You could even whip up a few diy skincare recipes for varying seasons or needs. Many of the natural ingredients are already in your kitchen right now.

Another bonus is, unlike store-bought face wash, a diy face cleanser is more gentle and moisturizing. Many of the recipes stay away from harsh soap. Instead, they clean your skin without stripping all the moisture.

Read on to learn how to choose the right natural face cleanser diy for you. I’ll show you the step-by-step instructions to make each of my favorite recipes afterward.

How to Find the Natural Face Cleanser DIY for You

The best diy natural face wash (and recipe) for you depends on multiple factors. No miracle recipe works well for every single person. Consider your:

  • Skin type

  • Age

  • Climate

  • Season

  • Daily skin care regimen

  • Makeup usage

If you apply the right cleanser at the right time, you could treat issues like aging, excessive oil, and dryness. For example, many people opt for a gel-based cleanser in the morning followed by an oil-based cleanser to remove excess makeup at night. Other people switch to a cleanser for dry or mature skin during dry months, like summer and winter.

Don’t be afraid to play around with the recipes or rotate homemade face wash based on the season or your skin’s ailments. I like to use a hydrating cleanser in the winter and an oily skin recipe in the summer.

The following cleansers are the best diy recipes I’ve found so far. Experiment with them to find one that works well for you.

Remember to remove your makeup before cleansing the skin and follow with moisturizer.

1. Lavender Oil Cleanser for Dry Skin

Home diy natural face wash 4Home diy natural face wash 5

Lavender essential oil from Nature’s Lab is my favorite for skincare because it leaves skin bright and glowing.

Lavender essential oil offers skin-loving benefits and soothes irritation. The diy oil cleanser is excellent in combination with moisture-boosting carrier oils such as grapeseed or sweet almond. However, you can use any of your favorite skin-loving carrier oils in this recipe. I opt for jojoba oil from Nature’s Lab.

When it comes to choosing a carrier oil for you, I suggest sticking with sweet almond, or jojoba oil. Olive oil in the US is often tainted, leading to inflammation if you apply it to your face. Coconut oil can also be comedogenic, which causes more breakouts.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ounce of carrier oil (pick your favorite)

  • 6 drops of lavender essential oil

  • A washcloth or reusable cotton round

Instructions: Pour the carrier oil directly into the bottle you house your cleanser in. Drop the lavender essential oil into the bottle next and mix it thoroughly. The essential oil must dilute before you apply it to your skin.

Yield: About an ounce.

Using the Cleanser: If you have never used lavender essential oil topically, complete a spot test on the inside of your wrist before using the cleanser on your entire face. Massage the oil directly into your skin. Wet a washcloth or reusable cotton round with warm water, using it to remove the oil from your face. Repeat as needed to remove makeup. Follow with moisturizer. Prodotti top

2. Foaming Honey Cleanser for Oily Skin

Castile soap is mild enough for diy facial cleansers and still strong enough to kill bacteria and prevent acne. Dr. Bronner’s is the best.

Raw and unpasteurized honey is amazing in diy skincare. Using a locally made honey is highly recommended to encourage wound healing, get rid of zits, boost moisture, soothe redness and inflammation, and reduce bacteria and oil – without feeling overly harsh.

Ingredients:

  • 1 /4 cup honey

  • 1/4 cup distilled water

  • 2 tablespoons of liquid castile soap

  • 1 teaspoon of avocado oil

  • 12 drops of essential oil (Any of your favorite Nature’s Lab choices work)

  • Pinch of baking soda (optional)

  • Foaming soap dispenser (optional)

Instructions: Combine the ingredients in an 8-ounce glass jar, bottle, or recycles honey bear bottle. Do not shake the mixture or the soap will foam. Add the water first, followed by the honey, soap, then oils.

Optional: Add a pinch of baking soda to the recipe once or twice per week to exfoliate the skin or combat acne. You could also switch out the distilled water for coconut or rose water for added moisture.

When it comes to the essential oils you use, choose one for your skin’s needs. I suggest skin-loving lavender or lemon for acne.

Yield: About 8-ounces. However, you can make a single-use spot treatment for blemishes by using up to a teaspoon of honey per time. Store larger batches in the refrigerator for an indefinite amount of time. If you use coconut or rose water, the recipe lasts up to two weeks in the fridge before molding.

Using the Cleanser: Wash your face with an oil cleansing balm and follow with this honey cleanser for a 2-step cleansing regimen, which deep cleans your pores and removes deep-set oil. Massage the honey into your face and neck in circular motions, allowing it to sit for several minutes. Rinse with warm water and follow with moisturizer. Avoid the eye area. Honey burns if it gets into your eyes.

3. Oatmeal Paste for Sensitive Skin

Cleanser removes dirt and makeup, but it’s not the only way to cleanse your skin. If you don’t wear much makeup and have sensitive skin, you can gain many of the same benefits from ground oatmeal.

Ingredients:

Instructions: Combine a handful of organic ground oatmeal with water to form a paste.

Yield: Immediate, single-use.

Using the Cleanser: Massage the oatmeal paste into your skin, using warm water to remove. Follow with moisturizer.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar Cleanser for Breakout-Prone or Combination Skin

Organic, raw, and unfiltered apple cider vinegar is ideal for facial cleanser. Braggs or Big B’s are both excellent brands.

Apple cider vinegar is powerful at combating breakouts, while the castile soap gently removes dirt and makeup. The ingredients come together for an intense, foaming clean. You may only want to use this cleanser a few times per week. Frequent use may dry out sections of your skin.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar

  • A drop of castile soap

  • Warm water

Instructions: Combine the ingredients in a small bowl, and immediately apply to your skin.

Yield: Immediate, single-use.

Using the Cleanser: Massage the cleanser into your skin in circular motions. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Follow with moisturizer.

5. Anti-Aging Yogurt Cleanser for Mature Skin

Yogurt is ideal for mature skin types because it’s gentle. The lactic acid and bacteria exfoliate the top few layers of skin, and the lemon adds vitamin C for brightening power.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of organic, plain yogurt

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions: Squeeze fresh lemon juice. Mix the yogurt and lemon juice together in a bowl.

Yield: Immediate, single-use. The cleanser does not keep, so only mix enough for a single use each time.

Using the Cleanser: Immediately apply the cleanser to your face and neck. Allow it to sit for a few minutes, then rinse using warm water. Follow with your favorite moisturizer.

Provide Time to Notice Skin Changes

As with any other skincare product, try the homemade face wash you pick for a few weeks to a month.

Get to know your skin during this time. Your skin’s needs may change by the day or season. Keeping an awareness of your skin helps you know when to adjust the diy cleanser recipe accordingly. Once you identify patterns in your skin, you can better tell which cleanser works as well.

Give each cleanser a bit of time to work, but try new recipes to find the right fit too.

Using too many different skincare products back-to-back could cause skin irritation. Try to only introduce one new product at a time. After a few weeks of following the routine, introduce another new product.

If you notice an increase in breakouts or skin irritation, stop using the facial cleanser immediately. Spot tests are recommended before applying a new recipe to your entire face. Test the cleanser on the inner side of your wrist for the best results.
