Taking a protein-rich diet, instead of a carbohydrate-rich diet, makes the body burn more calories a day. Herbalife Nutrition explains what components, such as group B and iron vitamins, help increase energy and favor the correct function of metabolism

Accelerating metabolism is a goal for those who want to monitor their weight, appetite and body fat levels. The faster metabolism, the more calories burn. However, what many people don't know is that having a fast metabolism means that the body may need to eat more and/or adjust the schedule of meals to keep weight. Michelle Ricker, Herbalife Nutrition Health Care Training Director, emphasizes that it is important to understand how the body processes food and what it needs for optimal functioning.

How the body produces energy
Although technically all foods can increase energy, it is important to understand what are best to keep it. Complex carbohydrates; healthy fats, such as avocado and nuts; and proteins from fish, chicken or eggs, among others, it takes more time to be digested. This causes a slow and constant flow of energy, which translates into a low glucemic index and therefore positive for the body.

Ricker explains that less energy is needed to digest foods of high glucemic index, or “base” food, because they have a high content of refined ingredients. This type of diet causes a constant sense of hunger, as it sends signals to the brain of “wanting more food.” Similarly, one of the main reasons why “diets” fail in the long term is because every time a meal is leaped, or the proper nutrients are stolen from the body, the level of low blood sugar, releasing a hormone in the body that causes muscle burning, not fat. This creates in people the need to resort to carbohydrates to maintain energy.

While it is true that carbohydrates are an important part of a balanced food to provide energy to the body, Ricker says that “if we meet our daily protein needs, instead of consuming so many carbohydrates, we will burn more calories.” A balanced intake of carbohydrates, proteins and fats provides the right calories the body needs to produce energy.

The power of mitochondria
Mytochondria produces the energy necessary for the survival and functioning of all cells of the body,
including the appropriate adrenal function. Adrenal glands produce hormones that help regulate metabolism, immune system, blood pressure, stress response, and other essential functions. It is often said that “food is a medicine” and when mitochondrial production is considered and how it affects these hormones, maintaining healthy adrenals is essential to achieve weight loss, energy and well-being.

Through a series of chemical reactions, mitochondria decompose glucose in an energy molecule known as adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is used to feed other cell processes. Basically, mitochondria help convert the energy taken from food into energy that cells can use. Letras en Graffiti Gratis | Descubre Todos los Estilos

The exercise increase the number of mitochondria improving the body's ability to produce energy.

Two excellent ways of supplying energy to mitochondria are the L-carnitine and creatine from natural food sources. Not only do they help supply energy to the body, but they are fundamental to help build muscle mass. You can get a lot of both through animal protein, such as the beef fed with pasture, Eggs and poultry; however, plant-based proteins, such as poultry beans, the nuts and seedsThey can do the job, too.

Supplements and foods needed to increase energy
The Group B vitamins are a good starting point if what you want is to increase energy. These vitamins are hydrosoluble, so the body only absorbs the amount it needs and the excess is eliminated through the urine.

Vitamin B12 plays an important role in energy production, as it helps to transform foods that are ingested into energy that cells can use. It also helps to form red blood cells that are necessary for lung function and converts fats and proteins into energy.

Vitamin B1, or thiamine, is used by the brain and nervous system; vitamin B2, or riboflavin, counteracts oxidative stress; vitamin B3, or Niacin, contributes to some basic brain functions; and vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, helps neurotransmitters.

The cooked spinach, broccoli, curly cabbage, berza, acelgas or beetle leaves are foods that enhance energy, contain chlorophyll, magnesium, and vitamins of group B.

The iron, for its part, intervenes in the creation of energy from the nutrients. It also contributes to the transmission of nervous impulses, signals that coordinate the actions of the different parts of the body. Some foods with a high iron content are legumes like lentils, chickpeas or beans; red meats; berbets; nuts such as pistachios, almonds and hazelnuts; or spinach, among others.

Accelerating metabolism is often the ultimate goal, but identifying how the body produces energy and what foods and supplements are the most appropriate is the first step to get the most out of performance.
