The first part to cleaning and maintaining tile floors is to clean them on a regular basis. Wipe off the spills immediately and avoid leaving muddy footprints on the floor. Sweep off the dirt and the grime and then wash the floors using a liquid washing solution mixed with water and a mop.
Once you have washed the floors, you can now clean it with a tile cleaner. While there are a number of commercial tile cleaners out there, you can use certain products available at home as well. One popular product used for cleaning tiles is vinegar. Mix vinegar with water and use this solution to mop your tile floors.
Tile floors can also be easily cleaned with citric acid. Mix a cup of crystallized citric acid in a gallon of warm water. Pour some citric acid solution on the tiles and allow the acid to break up the dirt and grime. Once the dirt loosens, pour some more acid solution and scrub the floor. Citric acid evaporates very quickly and hence it is important that you quickly scrub the floor.
Another useful product that can be used to clean tiles is oxygen bleach which is non toxic and does not produce any harsh fumes. Stir in oxygen bleach in warm water and use this solution to clean the floor. The oxygen ions loosen the dirt and stains thus making it easier for you to clean the floor. If you have vinyl floors then you can use chlorine bleach mixed with warm water or rubbing alcohol to clean the floors and remove the floor stains.
Once you are done, rinse the floor again with clean water and mop the floor dry.
