Howto how to cook ribs 1Ribs and BBQ are inseparable. To cook ribs at home one has to pay attention while trying to put flavor into the ribs. Ribs as we know generally is grilled, but can also be cooked using the oven method. You can cook any type of ribs at home – pork or beef. So here we go:

Difficulty Level

Easy.

Instructions

  • Clean the ribs – Before starting with grilling or roasting, you first need to remove the silver membrane from the underside of the rib cage.
  • Grilling – Before barbecuing you will have to put flavor into the ribs. The silver membrane usually prevents the flavor from getting in. Once you remove it, you can follow any of the two methods for flavoring- dry rub and marinades.
  • For dry rubs you will have to mix spices and herbs of your choice along with salt and black pepper. Or simply you can buy a commercial rub. Rub the mix over the ribs and cover it using a plastic or aluminum wrap. Refrigerate the ribs overnight or for few hours.
  • To prepare your marinade measure and mix one fourth of a cup of lemon juice, white vinegar and olive oil. To this mixture add three tablespoon of honey and one teaspoon of powdered black pepper-salt mix. Place the ribs in a container and pour this solution over it so that it gets coated completely. You can either refrigerate the ribs or wait for a few hours.
  • Prepare the grill by cleaning it and brushing the grate with vegetable oil. Use a disposable aluminum pan filled with water for controlling the temperature. For a gas grill place this pan on top of the grate. And for a charcoal grill, use boiling water instead and place to one side at the bottom of the grill.
  • Heat your grill to a temperature between 200 and 225 degree F and close it. Once the grill reaches the desired temperature, place the ribs over the grate area. Make sure the ribs cook over low heat and for a long time.
After thirty minutes of grilling, baste the ribs occasionally for the next three hours or so.
  • Once the ribs are done, you will see pink meat near the surface and white colored meat near to the bones. If you are using a meat thermometer make sure the temperature reads 180 degrees F. Serve hot.
  • Oven cooking Preheat the oven to 325 degree F. Cover the baking pan completely with aluminum foil and put little water in the bottom of the pan. Place the marinated ribs on the pan with the bones facing down. Make a loose tent over the ribs using aluminum foil (shouldn’t press against the meat), so as to keep the moisture in. Bake for an hour and then take out the pan. Remove the foil from the ribs and again bake at 375 degrees F for another 20 minutes. Serve hot.
