Headache during pregnancy is quite common and is usually caused due to hormonal changes. Other reasons include sinus, congestion, stress, etc. Natural remedies can be employed to deal with headaches during pregnancy without resorting to medicines that may prove harmful.

  • If your headache has been triggered due to sinus, warm compress is highly beneficial. Apply the warm compress near the nose and the eyes which in turn will unlock the blood vessels and provide relief from blocked nostrils.
  • In case your headache is due to stress and anxiety, a cold compress can do wonders in easing the situation. The cold compress can be applied on the neck and around the base of the skull to relieve the tensed muscles. A mild headache can be treated with a good sound sleep. Turn off the lights in the room and take a peaceful sleep. Or else drink a cup of hot tea to ease the tensed muscles and relieve mild headache.
  • Nothing works better than a taking a warm bath. Take a shower in warm water or immerse yourself in bath filled with warm water. It will relax the tension form the body and cure your headache. Practicing yoga and deep breathing exercises is extremely effective in treating headache. Deep breathing allows proper circulation of oxygen to all the body parts and relieves headache and other mild health problems.
  • Aromatherapy is effective in relieving stress and headache. Essential oils emit light fragrance which relieves the tensed muscles and soothes the mind. Peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, etc can be chosen for this purpose. Getting a massage done with lukewarm oil is another effectual way of dealing with pregnancy headaches caused due to stress. Neck and shoulders can also be massaged with gentle stroking to ease off the pain.
  • Lemon is a great remedy for headaches. If your headache is moderate, crush the upper crust of lemon to form a paste and apply it over the temples. Keep it on for 15-20 minutes and will headache will reduce considerably. Or else add few drops of lemon to tea to ease this situation. Refrain from taking pharmaceutical drugs if the problem can be cured with natural remedies as they have no side effects and are quite effective.
