Instructions

  • Choose the salmon – To grill salmon you will need the fish with its skin on. But if you are going to marinade it heavily then it’s better without the skin. Get salmon fillets of about one inch thickness.
  • Preparing the grill – Preheating is important whether it’s a gas grill or a charcoal grill. Heat your grill to medium hot temperature. For a charcoal grill the rules states that the flame should have subsided and the coal should be red hot. For a gas grill the temperature should read 325 degrees F.
  • If when you place your hand about four inches above the grill, you have to move it away within 5 seconds your grill is ready for the salmon.
  • Oil the grill rack or the grilling basket using a paper towel and tongs before placing the salmon.
  • Preparing the salmon – Clean the salmon and pat it dry using paper towels. You can simply brush olive oil and then rub a mixture of salt and grounded pepper over the salmon. Or simply sprinkle Old Bay.
  • Or apply lemon juice, salt, pepper, garlic and dill on the fillets. Another method is to make a marinade from soy sauce, olive oil and garlic.Whatever be your marinade recipe, make sure the salmon doesn’t sit in it for more than ten minutes.
  • Grilling the salmon – Place the seasoned or marinated salmon on the grill. Cover it if you are using a gas grill. Otherwise leave it open. Grill the salmon for about 4 minutes per side. Use a timer to prevent overcooking.
  • The salmon should turn opaque and firm if it is done. Do not flip or fuss with it too much during the grilling process. In just 8-10 minutes your salmon will be ready to serve.
