An Apple crumble is a delicious apple dessert that is famous for its tempting aroma and delectably fruity and wholesome flavor. If you have loads of apples lying in your refrigerator then this is the best thing you can do with them.

Baking apple crumble is super easy and can be made in no time, even if you have no prior experience of baking! A crumble is essentially a dish with crisp baked flour, butter and sugar based topping, underneath which is a layer of fruits sprinkled with sugar.

When the flour and the butter are baked with the apples, it gives a very delightful and fruity aroma to this traditional and classic dessert. Here is an easy Apple Crumble Recipe that helps you bake a crumble in no time. This recipe uses apples with it but you can go a step ahead and experiment with some other fruits like blueberries, strawberries or peaches.

  • Things you need: 6 to 8 medium sized red apples, 4 table spoons of sugar, one third cup of flour, 3 tablespoons of butter, 1 tsp cinnamon powder, a pinch of nutmeg powder, lemon juice and a square or round baking dish, preferably 10 inches Other optional ingredients could be oats or brown sugar.
  • Wash and peel the apples well. Cut the apples in thin wedges or slices and line up in a oven proof baking dish. Mix in some lemon juice over the apples and toss well. This will prevent the apples from turning black and stale and keep them fresh for a longer time. In another bowl mix sugar, cinnamon powder and nutmeg. Mix well till all the ingredients are nicely blended. Sprinkle this sugar mixture over the apples in the baking dish. Preheat the oven at 220 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Now, in another mixing bowl take the flour and sugar and sieve well. Rub in chunks of butter and keep mixing in with your hands by rubbing the butter and flour together. Bring it to a consistency and texture of a crumble. At this stage you can add some rolled oats or chopped nuts, which is purely optional. Now pour the crumble mixture over the apples so that it covers the apples completely. Without pressing hard gently use your hand to tap over the crumble so that there are no openings and the edges are pressed and closed completely.
  • Cover the dish with a foil and place in the preheated oven for at least 30 minutes. Keep checking your crumble dish in between to enjoy the bubbling apple mixture rising up. At the end of the baking process the crumble should look golden brown from the top and apples should be soft inside. Take out when done. Let the dish cool for 15 minutes and serve with whipped cream or fresh vanilla ice cream. It will also taste equally good when served with custard sauce or can be had just like that!
