Instructions
For making dumplings, you will need two cups of white flour, three to four tablespoon of baking powder, margarine, a teaspoon of salt and a cup of milk.
In a large bowl mix the flour, baking powder and salt. Now using a flour sifter, sift them into another large mixing bowl. Place the margarine or butter in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it and then add it to the flour mixture.
Combine all the ingredients with a wooden spoon and then add in the milk. Mix all the dumpling ingredients with your hand and then roll them into soft dough. If the dough sticks to the hand then add some more flour so that it achieves the desired consistency. You can also add cornmeal and grated cheddar cheese for better consistency and taste.
Once you have the dough for the dumplings, pinch out some portions of it and roll them into three inch balls. If you want to stuff something into the dumplings then make a hole in the center of the dough balls using your fingers and fill it with the stuffing. Carefully close the hole by pinching it and then make it into a ball again.
Steam, deep fry or bake the dumplings to make it nice and crispy. You can also add it to your soup, stew or casserole. Just drop them into a boiling pot of soup and stew and then reduce the heat. Allow the dumplings to cook for around half an hour on reduced heat. Once the dumplings are cooked in the center, ladle them into the soup bowls and serve.
