After winning several fights from your parents you have finally underwent the TATTOO process. But the journey does not end here as engraving a tattoo is easy but maintaining it is a sturdiest job. The precautionary steps given below will help your dream looking trendy long-lived.

Difficulty Level

It is not difficult to take care of a new engraved tattoo if you follow some simple guidelines.

Instructions

  • Leave the bandage on the tattoo for at least two hours to protect it from any outer contact. The tattoo artist may instruct you to keep the bandage for a longer time. It is wise to be patient and wait for the tattoo to heal.
  • Remove the bandage very carefully and throw it away.
  • After you remove the bandage, wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and mild antibiotic soap. Gently pat the tattoo area with a clean towel to make the area completely dry. Make sure that you do not rub it. Do not use any harsh cloth; it may harm your tattoo.
  • Apply A-D vitamin enriched ointment. If you don’t have any, an antibacterial ointment is acceptable. Be sure that the ointment you will be opting for is free from zinc as it may cause an adverse reaction.
  • Taking shower with your new tattoo is recommended but do not soak it longer while having a bath. This can cause serious damage. If you get soap or shampoo on your tattoo, just remove it quickly with water. Swimming should be strictly avoided for at least 2 weeks.
  • After a couple of weeks, you will notice some peeling. Do not peel off the flakes; you might pull the ink out. Let them eventually come off on their own. It may be possible that you get a little bit of itching, do not scratch it. You can apply a lotion to soften the area; this will surely reduce your itching.
  • After your tattoo is healed you just need to protect it from prolonged exposure to the sun. Apply a sun-block of 30SPF (minimum) before going out in sun.
