  • Before you begin washing the walls of your home, remove any wall hangings, art work, mirrors, etc from them. This will make the cleaning process easier. You can also move the furniture away from the walls so that they do not get wet from the drippings when you are washing the walls.
  • Prepare a cleaning solution for the washing process. For this, fill one bucket with lukewarm water and add a mild cleaning solution to it. You can also prepare a cleaning solution at home by mixing 2 cups ammonia in a gallon of lukewarm water. This solution is highly effective in wiping out tough stains.
  • Remember to test the cleaning solution on a small patch of the wall to ensure that your wall paint does not react adversely to it. Also, prepare a rinsing solution in another bucket consisting of fresh lukewarm water. You will also need clean sponges and a few clean dry towels. Wear rubber gloves so that your hands do not become too wet or dirty during the washing process.
  • To begin cleaning the walls, dip one of the sponges in the cleaning solution and start wiping each wall beginning from one corner. Wash the walls starting from the bottom reaching up to the top and clean them from left to right ensuring you do not leave out any area. Wipe the walls in circular motions and repeat the process for areas of the wall that are really dirty.
  • Remember to rinse the sections of the walls you have just wiped with the cleaning solution. For this dip the second sponge in fresh water and gently wipe the areas where you have used the cleaning solution. you may need to re-dip the sponge in the clean water and wipe the walls several times to ensure that all cleaning solution has been completely got rid of.
  • Ensure you rinse the walls very well because any residual cleaning solution can harm the paint on your walls if left un-rinsed. It may not be possible to clean all the walls of your home effectively on a single day. To make the cleaning process easier and more effective, wash the walls in different rooms on different days.
  • When washing the walls remember to clean the door frames, window sills, baseboards, etc so that your home is spotlessly clean. Once you are done with cleaning and rinsing a particular section of the wall, immediately dry it using a towel.
