Fivestars Fitness reports that 32 per cent of the Spanish population currently performs more physical exercise than before the pandemic and a significant increase in the number of patients attending nutritionist consultations after the pandemic has been perceived.

The arrival of the coronavirus paralysed for a large number of people around the world their physical exercise routine. However, this interest in caring for the body and food has become a priority for many citizens and athletes after the time of confinement.

According to data from the Spanish Society of Community Nutrition, 32 % of the Spanish population currently performs more physical exercise than before the pandemic, while the Spanish Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has perceived a “important increase” in the number of patients attending consultations of the post pandemic nutritionists, mainly because of the weight gain, as its president, Giuseppe Russolillo, says.

According to a study conducted by the Centro Reina Sofía on Adolescencia y Juventud de FAD, 37 % of the Spanish population between 15 and 29 years of age admitted to having adopted new trends of healthy food during the worst months of the pandemic, a fact that has strengthened the interest of young people for food. These factors are increasing the interest of the population in receiving nutritional advice, either by going back to the gyms or by wanting to control what is ingested or the fear of gaining weight. In addition, new technologies facilitate the advice of nutrition experts and online training, a method carried out by Spanish companies like Fivestars International Graduate School offering courses and congresses online as well as presences.

“The Spanish company Fivestars IGS invests in telepresence education with teachers chosen in different countries of the world to address teaching with recent scientific studies and advances, so our students will have a competitive advantage by being at the last one,” said Javier Cespedosa, academic director of Fivestars IGS.

Nutritional advisers have played a key role during confinement by alerting the population of the risks resulting from a poor diet, and it has become aware that it has to be well informed about what it eats to protect its immune system, with more importance if it fits the people who have suffered coronavirus and who have physical sequelae.
