Nutritional management and support is present at the daily veterinary clinic but does not always receive the attention it deserves due to lack of training or practical references. The aim of this manual is to provide the veterinary clinic of small animals such information and scientific references so that you can make the most appropriate nutritional support decisions for your patients.
Divided into two sections, the first addresses the nutritional evaluation of the patient, the different characteristics of commercial food and household rations and the nutritional composition of different foods. The second section deals with nutritional support in detail according to different clinical situations by addressing the type of food to be given, the amounts, the food pattern and the follow-up to be done.
This second edition completely updates the previous one with current scientific advances and includes practical tools with solved clinical cases.
The aim of this manual is to provide the clinical information tools based on scientific evidence, to guide you in making decisions of the most suitable nutritional support for each of your patients.
As explained by Cecilia Villaverde Haro and Marta Hervera Abad:
“Food management and support in dogs and cats is an important part of daily clinical practice. Even as a daily activity, it does not always receive the attention it deserves for lack of time, training and resources, or practical references. The aim of this manual is to provide the clinical tools and information based on scientific evidence to guide you in making decisions of the most suitable nutritional support for each of your patients. The work is divided into two sections, the first of which addresses the key points in the patient's nutritional assessment, the knowledge and evaluation of commercial food, home rations and new food trends or the comparison of food composition. In the second section, the nutritional support of different clinical situations is treated by chapters, including the key points of a nutritional support plan: what food to manage? in what quantity? what diet pattern to follow? and what monitoring is appropriate?. In this second edition, in addition to updating the contents with the new knowledge available, more practical tools have been included, the composition tables of veterinary diets have been updated and new chapters of clinical situations have been included in which clinical nutrition plays an important role. ”
