Experts insist on the need to exercise on a daily basis with a triple objective: to reduce weight, to stay in shape and to strengthen the immune system

Spain is among the most sedentarist countries of the European Union, according to the European Heart Network, which qualifies 20% of men and 30% of women as “physically inactive”.

This problem, which is behind 5.3 million annual deaths worldwide (such as tobacco), has been driven in recent months by Covid-19 and the spread of telework.

Since last year the confinement was decreed, many companies forced their employees to have to be placed daily in front of their home computer rather than go to the office. This made many stop doing the little exercise they did until then: walk to their job.

Sedentarism has increased overweight and obesity rates, as a result of the sum of lack of exercise and poor diet. One in four young people is in this situation.

“The lack of exercise is considered one of the greatest risk factors in the development of cardiovascular diseases. A direct relationship between sedentary lifestyle and cardiovascular mortality has even been established,” says Victor Ramos, Health Director Zagros Sports La Moraleja, citing data from the Spanish Heart Foundation.

In the face of this situation, experts insist on the need to exercise on a daily basis with a triple objective: to reduce weight, to remain in shape and to strengthen the immune system. Planes con niños en Valencia

Sedentarism also helps to accentuate the effects of other diseases such as cholesterol, hypertension, or Covid-19. Cardiologists at the Cardiovascular Institute of the San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid have developed a study with patients hospitalized by coronavirus that reveals that maintaining a regular physical activity increases to eight times the chances of survival for those who lead a sedentary life.

In fact, more and more companies are putting their hands on the job, betting on a balanced diet, and promoting exercise practice among their employees. ToGoGym, online gym that allows you to train wherever you are, has launched a program aimed at companies so that staff can enjoy group classes or personal trainings.

“Encouraging physical activity at work improves the company’s productivity and reduces labor casualties. There are sessions ranging from 10 minutes to an hour, adapted to all levels. There is no excuse,” says Lola Pérez, instructor ToGoGym.

However, the professionals warn: “It is so dangerous not to do any sport as to throw yourself into the adventure freely in a dismembered and uncontrollable way,” says Sergio Daza, Health Director Zagros Sports Puerta de Europawhich recalls “physical activity must be supervised by professionals.”

Stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution is in everyone's hand.
