The DEKRA expert multinational, as a certified entity accredited in BRC, IFS and ISO 22000, highlights the importance of the approach to food security culture to ensure compliance and to be synchronized with industry trends and customer expectations and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)

The GFSI has become the engine of a wide range of certification systems in the food sector as well as introducing, in its seventh version of requirements, the idea of food security culture. This has meant immediate integration into the standards of certification schemes recognized as BRC v8, IFS Food v7, among others. In 2020, DEKRA issued a total of 196 IFS certificates, 38 BRC and 12 according to ISO 22000.

Many organizations have realized that it is not enough to invest in training staff in food safety, to implement systems and to audit them since it does not guarantee the desired levels in food safety; in other words, the comprehensive assessment of their culture in food security is still necessary.

The emphasis here is on the essential role of leaders and managers throughout the organization. Regular communication, education, metrics, teamwork and personal responsibility are vital. In addition, acquired skills, including adaptability and awareness of hazards, can move important safe food practices, beyond a theoretical conversation to live in “real time”.

A successful implementation can be achieved by following two basic steps: evaluating the current state of the system in the company and creating and implementing an action plan.

The company DEKRA as an international partner, you can offer you the preliminary audit of your system as well as the certification audit according to the standards of the BRC, IFS and/or ISO 22000 schemes.
